Frank Gehry, the trailblazing architect whose sculptural forms and fearless imagination reshaped skylines around the world, has died at the age of 96. Born in Toronto and later establishing his practice in Los Angeles, Gehry transformed contemporary architecture through his bold experimentation with materials, movement, and space. Over a career spanning seven decades, he became one of the most celebrated and influential architects of the modern era.

Among his most iconic contributions is the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, a shimmering masterpiece of titanium curves that helped redefine the cultural identity of northern Spain. The museum’s dramatic, fluid exterior and soaring interior atrium turned it into a destination in its own right, drawing millions of travellers and inspiring cities everywhere to imagine how art and architecture could transform a place.

In Los Angeles, the Walt Disney Concert Hall stands as another monument to Gehry’s genius. Its stainless-steel sails, gleaming in the California sun, anchor the city’s cultural district and attract visitors from around the globe. Inside, its warm, sweeping wooden interior has become revered for both its acoustic excellence and its sense of intimacy — a rare and compelling combination that continues to delight audiences and architecture enthusiasts alike.

Gehry’s global impact also extended to Paris, where the Fondation Louis Vuitton showcases his gift for creating structures that feel both monumental and weightless. Composed of glass sails that appear to drift across the Bois de Boulogne, the building has become a highlight for international travellers seeking contemporary art in a setting that elevates the experience. Across continents, Frank Gehry leaves behind a legacy of creativity, daring, and wonder, a body of work that will continue to inspire those who journey from far and wide to not only see it, but experience it.
